Trio Angus Bull Sale Tops at $17,000

As published in The Coolah Diary

Spirited bidding from both local & interstate buyers led to a strong bull sale result for Trio Angus. A 100% clearance was achieved for the 50 bulls offered, to average $8,326 with a top price of $17,000.

Trio Angus co-principle, Matt Cherry, said the support from repeat buyers was very strong, with 70% of bulls going to existing, local clients in the Cassilis, Coolah, Merriwa & Mudgee areas. “Breeders recognised the leading genetics on offer & seized the opportunity to source them locally which was great to see”. The remainder of the bulls were purchased by buyers from further afield, including Scone, Tamworth, Dubbo & Taree.

The top priced bull was Lot 39. Trio Beast Mode Q78, who was purchased by Banquet Angus, Victoria. They paid $17,000 for the yearling, who offered leading genetics & exceptional EBV’s. This is the third stud sire Banquet has purchased from Trio Angus.

Another highlight of the sale was mature stud sure, Millah Murrah Maestro, selling for $14,500 to Serenity Angus, Taree. Maestro also had 13 sons in the sale.

Glencoe Pty Ltd, Rouchel, secured a strong line up of four bulls on the day. Other volume buyers included BT Sevil, Widden Stud & the Goddard family.

Bulls offering calving ease genetics were the most highly sought after in the sale. Breeders were looking for low birth weight bulls to use over heifers in their herd rebuilding plans. “Breeders were certainly confident to invest in quality genetics to capitalize on the strong cattle market” Matt said.

Although it was a solid sale, co-principle Shelley Piper said ‘it was also pleasing to see some bulls still selling for $4000 & $5000, which gave buyers the opportunity to secure new genetics at affordable prices’.

Many comments were made on sale day that the performance & quality of the Trio Angus bulls was comparable with other leading Angus studs in the industry. The excellent temperament of the bulls was also acknowledged. “We’re very proud of the reputation we’ve established for having quiet cattle” said Shelley Piper.
